Post-9/11 Craziness in a Small Town
Great story in today's paper by Jerry Mitchell of The Clarion-Ledger revealing the U.S. Attorney's post-9/11 investigations of north Mississippi convenience store owners who, apparently, made the mistake of having Middle Eastern-sounding names.
Luckily, the investigation put an end to the suspects' dastardly schemes -- not bomb-making or arms-smuggling, but selling too much cold medicine.
The insanity (not to mention the legal impropriety) of such an investigation speaks for itself. Here's the kicker:
Those involved in the [investigation] say the money from the illegal activity was being sent back overseas, where it couldn't be traced and possibly could have gone to funding terrorism. But they acknowledged the money could have gone to relatives instead.
OR ANYTHING ELSE. Absolutely unbelievable.
Great story about a crappy story, Jerry.
