Homework Due Today in Scott v. Mississippi
Just a reminder for the teeming masses of Mississippi Supreme Court devotees out there that the Attorney General's Office has a brief due today at the U.S. Supreme Court in response to the cert petition in Scott v. Mississippi. So far as the Supreme Court's online docket can be relied upon, the Court has not approved any requests for an extension (if, indeed, one even has been requested).
Scott's conviction was affirmed 8-1 by the state high court in December 2008, despite the fact that his attorney revealed a privileged confession to the trial judge during an ex parte meeting.
